Why a Small Wedding Is Actually a Good Idea

When you dreamt of your wedding day as a child, did you picture an intimate affair with your nearest and dearest, or an elaborate party packed with people? Many of us dreamt big, but with the realities of C-19 restrictions, we’ve all had to pivot and accept the fact that if you want a wedding reception in the next few months, you’re probably only going to be able to host a small wedding. And you know what? Small weddings are actually really great, even for those who wanted to go big! A small wedding has many benefits, and we’re here to tell you what they are!

1.       It costs less!

This is something that no one can complain about! A smaller wedding means less guests – this means less mouths to feed, less alcohol to worry about, and potential savings when you need a smaller space. While your dress costs will be the same, and your photographer will still charge you the regular price, you’ll save considerably on the catering and bar. Since this accounts for a large portion of the wedding costs, it’s a savings you’ll definitely notice.

2.       It’s filled with only the most important people!

When you host a smaller wedding, your guest count is limited, meaning you may need to make some tough decisions about who to invite. However, on your wedding day, you’ll be surrounded only by the people who mean the most to you! You won’t be meeting some guests for the first time (like your cousin’s newest girlfriend, or your boss’ wife who you’ve never seen), and your wedding photos will be filled only with people you’re genuinely crazy about.

3.       You’ll be able to speak with everyone!

When you have a wedding of 500, it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to have a personal and meaningful conversation with every single wedding guest. And while it’s the norm to only quickly greet your guests in larger weddings, a small wedding gives you the opportunity to really speak with everyone in attendance. Because the guests attending are only your closet friends and family, you won’t need to worry about any awkward introductions or stilted conversations – you’ll be able to freely converse with all your guests because you’ll have the time to!

The last 12 months have really shown us that it’s impossible to perfectly plan for the future, and that we need to adapt as much as possible in order to keep living our lives. What this has meant for the wedding industry is a large focus on small weddings and micro weddings – and even if a small wedding is not what you had originally planned, we hope that you can see the positives in it. A wedding is a celebration of you and your partner, and no matter how big or small that celebration is, at the end of the day you’re still marrying the love of your life. So embrace that small wedding, and enjoy every second of it!
