Should You Hire a Wedding Planner?

Whether you’ve looked up countless checklists to get you on track to plan your wedding, or you’ve barely started thinking about the big day, you need to answer an important question – will you be hiring a wedding planner? And should you? Planning a wedding can take a lot of time and effort with details as big as seating arrangements to as small as napkin ring colours. Wedding planning can also cause a lot of stress, and bring out sides of you that you didn’t even know existed. This is why many couples opt for hiring a wedding planner. So, is that what’s right for you?

Consider the Costs

Hiring a wedding planner is not free – you are paying a professional for their wedding planning services. You need to consider whether hiring a wedding planner is within your budget, as it can be a few thousand dollars out of your pocket. However, financial costs are not the only costs to consider; a wedding planner might save you valuable time. As a dedicated wedding professional, a wedding planner knows the ins and outs of wedding planning, and their entire job is taking the planning duties away from you. That might be quite a bit of time saved. Consider what costs are more important to you and what costs make more sense for you to save on. This answer is different for everybody.

Consider the Duties

Are you the type of person who likes to be responsible for the success of projects, or would you rather step aside and let someone else handle it? Wedding planning can be a big time commitment and require a lot of organization and discipline, but if you enjoy being in charge, then why give that responsibility up to a third party? On the other hand, if the duties of the day are too overwhelming for you to handle, then outsource them to a wedding planner! There’s no shame either way, you just need to figure out what’s best for you.

Consider the Needs

Do you need a wedding planner? What do you need them for? Being able to answer these questions frankly will help you understand what you’re actually thinking. Are you looking for someone to plan your big day so that you don’t spend any time on planning? Are you looking for someone to be there the day of to prevent any problems from arising? Are you just not sure how to go about this and need some guidance? A wedding planner may be for you, but be very clear on what your needs are – you may not need a wedding planner to handle absolutely everything for you. You may just need someone to help you in the early stages, or someone to coordinate the details the day of. You may also just need one of the members of your wedding party to step up and do the duties they’re supposed to do anyways.

Whatever you decide, make sure it’s the right decision for you. Wedding planning can be stressful, but it can also be so rewarding – so talk with your partner, figure out a plan, and decide on what you want to do!
