New Year, New Wedding! What are the first steps you need to take to plan your wedding?

It’s a new year, which means it’s time for a fresh start, and time to get organized and start planning! With so many new engagements popping up over the last year, many of you are finally starting to plan your weddings. Whether your dream wedding date is coming up in under a year, or you want a longer engagement, it’s time to really focus and get your wedding planned! Here are a few tips to get you started:

1.       What’s the vibe?

It’s a good idea to sit down with your partner and discuss what you envision when you think of your wedding day. Do you want the vibe to feel cozy? Elegant? Extravagant? Get down to the base of this, and figure out your wedding vibe. This is the first step to getting organized in planning your wedding. Once you pick a vibe, focus only on that vibe! Don’t distract yourself with Pinterest boards filled with gorgeous pictures that aren’t even close to what you’ve landed on. Save your time and energy for the rest of your planning!

2.       Who’s coming?

It’s time to discuss your guest list. This will give you an idea of how big of a venue you’ll need, and where it’s best to look. If most of your guests are from out of town, you may want to expect that less of them show up, and may also want to consider a venue that has a hotel nearby. You don’t need to have a complete guestlist at this early stage, but you need to have a guest estimate – it’s one of the first questions that most wedding vendors will ask!

3.       Where’s the big day?

You’ve settled on a vibe, and you have a guest estimate – now it’s time to find your venue. This is one of the first steps you take when wedding planning, because venues are the first things to book. Given how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the wedding industry, dates are even more sparse than before, as many brides have had to postpone. For certain dates, you may need to book as far as 2-3 years out! Since you’re armed with the knowledge of vibe and guest list, finding a venue becomes a little easier.
