Your guide to incorporating a Fall theme without going overboard

Fall-themed events can be so beautiful with their rich Fall colours and seasonal menus, but it’s very easy to go overboard when working with a Fall theme. That’s why we’ve created this simple guide for you – lean into the Fall theme in an elegant way that’ll give you the essence of the season without feeling excessive. Want to know how to execute a Fall-themed event that’s not over the top? Read on.

Use colours strategically

The deep reds and oranges of this season are stunning, but if your entire event space is covered in them, they can quickly lose their appeal. Instead, try to use colours strategically by picking a neutral colour as a base, and using your favourite Fall colours as accents. Consider using a coloured napkin on a neutral tablecloth, or a neutral centrepiece with small pops of red and orange throughout. This is all about moderation.

Keep the expected Fall décor to a minimum

Fall season is pumpkin season, and while we love pumpkins and how orange they are, incorporating them sparingly instead of everywhere will lead to a more beautiful overall look. When using the more traditional seasonal décor like pumpkins, Fall leaves, or even apples, less is best. If you want to include pumpkins or Fall leaves, don’t put them everywhere, or consider using less traditional colours (white pumpkins are a great neutral décor item that still support your theme!). Again, this is all about moderation.

Play around with your centrepieces

Centrepieces are one of the best ways to communicate your chosen themes, so get creative here! If it’s a Fall theme that you’re looking for, then bring in some seasonal florals and play around with the heights. Don’t feel like you need to stick to an orange-only colour palette, but consider the other elements that give you that Fall feeling – consider adding twigs, dried florals, real wood, lace, or even burlap to support your Fall theme without making it feel too obvious.

Use your menu to show your theme

A new season means new foods are in season, so highlight what’s in season on your menu to communicate that Fall theme! Lean towards apples, pears, pumpkins, squash, even jams or desserts flavoured with cinnamon or pumpkin spice. Working with what’s in season is always a great idea, but when it supports your seasonal theme, then it’s definitely a must!
